On Tuesday night Brent had an idea. "Let's go to Columbus on Thursday night and visit the zoo on Friday morning." He quickly found a great hotel deal on Priceline, we confirmed getting half price tickets for the zoo due to our Cincinnati membership, I called the kennel to reserve an overnight stay for Wilson, and we had planned our last trip of the summer.
We left after Oliver's nap on Thursday. After driving through a monsoon once we were close to Columbus we spent much of the night in the swimming pool. This was only the 3rd or 4th time Oliver's been in a big pool and he's not so fond of it. We finally got him to calm down, but he did not let go of either of us the entire time. We'll work on it in time.
The Columbus Zoo is known for being one of the best zoos in America. Oliver helped us by reading the map and showing us where to go. It is organized by continent. Our favorite in North America was the wrestling wolverines. (Not Hugh Jackson, but real wolverines!). I loved the kangaroos in Australia, though it was neat to see koalas as well. The best in the Congo section were the gorillas. They had tons of them and they were all really interactive. Oliver always loves the penguins! It was a great last minute trip!
Oliver is creative while playing these days. Yesterday we were laughing at him as he sat in our laundry basket and played with his Legos. He loves to climb through diaper or wipes boxes as well. Bubbles are a big hit these days too, especially in the bath!
