Night Time Routine

Every night Oliver has the same bedtime routine. Between 7:00 and 7:30 I run his bath water, put out his towel, wash cloth, and pajamas. During this time he either "helps" me in my arms or lays on the floor kicking the piano on the side of his crib. I also fix his bottle during this time. If he sees it, he'll fuss, wanting his milkies, so we have to hide it until time to drink it. Once the water is ready, he is undressed and takes his bath, which he really enjoys! After washing up and playing in the water we go back to his room and put his pajamas on.

Then it's MILKY TIME! Oliver's learning how to hold his bottle really well, but can't put it up where milk comes out quite yet. We just started working on this in the last week. After the milk is gone and burping is accomplished, we read two books. This week he was given his first Bible, which is one of the ones we've started reading. Other books include Good Morning, Good Night, which has animal fur to touch, I Love You This Much, and many others.

In the last week we've started brushing Oliver's teeth after we read. I only put a tiny bit of toothpaste on his finger toothbrush so he doesn't swallow the fluoride (bad for babies, apparently). He really likes the taste and constantly licks his teeth after they are cleaned.

Finally, Oliver lays down in his crib, covers up with his blanket, and gets a kiss from me. I turn on his Coldplay or U2 lullabies, and walk out of the room. Some time within the next 5 to 45 minutes, Oliver falls asleep. Some nights he's exhausted and goes to sleep quickly. Other nights he'll squeal happily or cry incessantly until he puts himself to sleep. The squealing time is always longer and more common than any amount of crying. He's still an amazing sleeper, waking up between 6:30 and 7:00 the next morning.

Good night!

Friday afternoon was beautiful! Oliver loved hamming it up in a chair on the back porch.
