Extra Time Off

This week we got a special treat because Brent was off for 3 extra days. We did not know this was happening until the last minute, so it really was a great surprise. His department is in the middle of changing shift schedules, so this was their way of making a transition available for him. This means we were able to hang out with friends and run errands together like we do not normally get to do. In the middle of this extra time Oliver is having lots of fun doing some exciting things.
  1. Oliver's post-op visit from the surgery was today and everything looks good! We were worried that the cyst had grown back, but fortunately were wrong. The part we were concerned about is just puffed up skin and nothing to worry with. We don't have to go back for a year to get things checked out again. Praise the Lord this part of life may be over!
  2. Oliver loves playing with Wilson! They lay on the floor together. Oliver pets his puppy and shares his Cheerios with him. Just yesterday he was balancing on Wilson to get to me. Wilson's learning how to enjoy having a new friend.
  3. Oliver is eating chunkier foods. Tonight at dinner for his fruit serving I gave him chunks of strawberries, blueberries, pineapples, and mandarin oranges while we were out at a restaurant rather than pureed. He did a great job! Not only did he chew everything up really well, but he made very little mess. It was nice to be able to eat my own food with smaller amounts of interruption.
  4. Oliver has learned how to sit up in his crib. This is sometimes a problem because he will sit up and wail for someone to come help because he can't get back down. I've already gone in 4 times tonight to help him lay back down and eventually had to coddle him just a little so he could be calm enough to put himself to sleep.
  5. Oliver laughs at everyone and everything! He makes friends with anyone who will smile at him. This is true everywhere from the hospital to the airport to the grocery store and out to eat. We have a very lovable little boy with a gorgeous smile! There is truly no way to portray how amazing he truly is in pictures or video!
