The first thing on our list was a nativity made from popsicle sticks. We colored the sticks according to what they would represent on the nativity then glued them together. Through the course of the activity I learned what Oliver's teachers meant when they said he struggled completing tasks. We ended up with a series of time-outs throughout our project because he did not want to finish coloring. After an hour and a half our simple project was finally completed. We followed-up the project by reading a children's book about the nativity, then revisited what we've been learning about Jesus being the King whose birthday is on Christmas. We talked about how we celebrate His coming today in comparison to how it was celebrated when he was actually born.
Tonight we made our annual Christmas cookies. This year was the most fun so far because Oliver can do so much more than he could even last year. He was able to squeeze out the icing, make patterns, and place sprinkles and morsels on his cookies. We made a deal that we would not eat any tonight and he did a great job of following directions! I was proud of him and can't wait to enjoy our creations together tomorrow!
